Most Realistic Shotgun Simulator EVER | Shoot Better Instantly

Mar 27, 2025

Living in Minnesota, I know that winters are long and cold. This makes staying on top of your shooting skills rather tricky. Sure, there are little fixes like dry fire training or VR games, but nothing compares to this immersive shooting simulator regarding skill-building practice. Today, we're looking at the TrueClays shotgun simulator. This isn't your average sim - you can use your own shotgun and experience real-time shooting responsiveness with no lag. How is this possible? Let's dive into the world of TrueClays.

What Is True Clays?

I'll let Fredrik, the owner, tell you. Here is what he has on his TrueClays website:  TrueClays is a state-of-the-art shooting simulator which pushes the absolute boundaries of today’s technology to deliver a transparent environment that accurately simulates clay shooting for real at the range. TrueClays operates at such high accuracy and speed, shot patterns and hit areas are guaranteed to be the same as, or within the tolerances of an actual shotgun, regardless of discipline (including the faster Olympic ones).

Fredrik and TrueClays are based in Sweden. Regardless of our time zone difference, Fredrik was very kind in assisting with the setup of this high-tech simulator. In our initial conversations, I thought the setup would be as easy as downloading a program and plugging it into my projector. Boy, was I wrong. This is so high tech that the computer and projector are part of the package price to get TrueClays. Once I started shooting, it started to make sense. In short, (from my understanding) the computer and projector must be compatible and run at the same extremely impressive refresh rate to result in the quickest response time possible. This allows you to pull the trigger on your shotgun and instantly see a hit or a miss on the screen.

After spending time with True Clays, I can confidently say that I love it. It's an incredibly cool system with a ton of potential, but it’s not for everyone. Let’s dive into what makes it great and where it truly shines.

Is True Clays Right for You?

True Clays is a premium system with a price tag to match. It also requires ample space for setup, which might limit its accessibility for some individuals. However, if you have the budget and the room, this system is an incredible tool for training, practice, and even entertainment. In fact, my son was excited to learn that you can use the projector for video games and movie nights, adding another dimension to its value.

From a training standpoint, True Clays offers an immersive experience, allowing shooters to track moving clays, pull the trigger on their actual shotgun, and receive instant feedback on shot placement. If you’re serious about improving your shooting skills, this system provides a valuable way to refine your technique and gain confidence.

Where True Clays Excels

While home users who are dedicated to their craft will find this tool beneficial, I see the biggest potential for True Clays at gun clubs and training facilities.

  1. Offseason Training: Gun clubs could use True Clays to keep members engaged during the colder months when outdoor shooting is limited. This would provide an excellent way to maintain and refine skills year-round.

  2. Youth and New Shooter Training: High school trap shooting leagues bring in new athletes every year, many of whom have never shot a shotgun before. True Clays offers a fantastic introduction to shooting sports, allowing young shooters to practice movement, target acquisition, and technique before heading to the range.

  3. Coaching & Skill Development: Coaches can use True Clays to break down movements, provide instant corrections, and help students understand the fundamentals of shooting before they ever fire a live round. This could be a game-changer for both beginners and experienced shooters looking to elevate their game.

True Clays vs. Other Simulators

If you’re wondering how True Clays compares to other shooting simulators, like the VR-based Real Stock Pro, there are some key differences. While VR simulations provide a fully immersive experience, they don’t allow you to physically handle your actual shotgun. True Clays keeps you connected to your real firearm, offering a more authentic feel for tracking targets and gauging lead perception.

That said, VR training systems are a more budget-friendly option and provide great training opportunities, especially for those who might not have the space or funds for True Clays. However, when it comes to realistic shotgun training, nothing beats working with your own firearm.

Setup & Support

True Clays is a sophisticated system, and setup can be complex. I ran into some challenges initially, but the support team, particularly Frederick, was extremely helpful. There’s even a remote assistance feature where they can log in and troubleshoot for you, which is a huge plus. While the system does require customization to get it dialed in perfectly, once set up, it delivers an exceptional training experience.

Final Thoughts

True Clays is an exciting and innovative training tool with serious potential. If you have the space and the budget, it’s worth considering—especially for dedicated shooters and gun clubs looking to enhance their training programs. While it may not be a fit for casual shooters, those who are committed to improving their skills will find immense value in this system.

I’m curious to hear from you—what aspects of True Clays would you like to see explored further? Would you be interested in a follow-up video with competitions, youth training, or a deeper dive into specific features? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
